Unfriendly people...Man do I miss them. I know it's sounds strange, and I would have never called my PA friends unfriendly, but compared to the south...us PA people seem like downright grumps.
Here in TN everyone...and I mean EVERYONE is your friend. It's rather deceiving actually. I'm a VERY straight forward person. My family tell me I'm blunt but I prefer to call it honest, and as a person who can't mask who she is I simply don't understand this so called "southern hospitality". Everyone is nice here and all waving at you when you drive past. Those friendly conversations were reserved for friends, along with the waving.
Know I have to admit I have started waving to the random person in my neighborhood as well. At first I felt like an absolute creeper and now I kind of feel a part of the club. Of what club I'm not sure yet...but there is definitely a club down here. Maybe it’s simply the southern club where everyone is your "friend" and no one is really your "friend". In the North, yea, maybe people are a little grumpy. And yea, maybe they are a little unfriendly. But I miss knowing that when I finally broke through that shell that Pennsylvanian’s have I was their friend. I mean REAL friend. The kind of friend that would give you the shirt off their back. The kind of friend that would defend you when others talked badly about you. The kind of friend that you don't see for ten years and when you finally see them it’s like nothing has EVER changed. A faithful friend...a REAL friend.
So yea Unfriendly people...I miss them. Not really because people down here aren't good friends but because the friends you make in the North aren't just good friends...They became like family.
